(Spoilers ahoy!) I love this series, but Golem was kind of a letdown. There just wasn't any sense of urgency in the book, even though the heroine's mother was at stake and it should have been easy to build tension. Every time someone died, the reaction of Zoey and her boyfriend was basically to shrug and go do something else. Every time the bad guy, Katy, got close to the heroes, she conveniently left for no reason whatsoever without hurting any major characters, and then she basically went ahead and killed herself at the end. Add in the fact that much of the book is long boring drives around the United States... It's just not an exciting read. Plus, the artificial, half-chapter drama of Riley talking about their boring relationship (hint: it IS boring) was there and gone so quickly that I wonder why they bothered addressing it at all.I still enjoy the quirkiness of these books quite a lot. I think they'll be better once we get back to the house and Zoey focuses more on helping people, which is really where this series is at its best. I like the kind of cozy mysteries of the first few. The attempt at more suspense was a big dud. Still, I will definitely get the next one and hope for the best.

Golem in My Glovebox Monster Haven Book 4 eBook RL Naquin Reviews
I like the crazy mythical creatures , monsters, & magical beings. I like reading about the new powers Zoey discovers and her fumbling and bumbling to be a good Ageist. The last book was heavy and sad, but this book was way worse. I don't really like the way this series is going. I liked the lighter stories better. This book lost me as a reader with all the loss of life and the dark direction it took. Good story & good plot, but not for me. I won't be reading anymore.
I feel like I've waited YEARS for this book (but it's only been a couple of months). This one is very bit as good as the others and is full of surprises. R. L. Naquin is so unbelievably creative and imaginative as a world-creator and storyteller. I don't need to tell you any story details because you can get those from the description. But Naquin continues to create creatures that are entirely new to me and to imbue these creature characters with fully realized personalities.
This is my favorite series and R. L. Naquin is my favorite of all the writers I've recently come across.
"Golem in my Glovebox" is the fourth book in R. L . Naquin's Monster Haven Series. Zoey and Riley are on the lookout for the kidnapped Aegises. But in order to find them, Zoey must figure out who has them, why they took them, along with why do they want to break the Covenant. With the Government of Hidden Affairs private plain missing, Zoey and Riley will have to drive across country to study clues, pay the O.R.G.E.S. to police the Hidden, while learning how to deal with a self aware golem. Overall, I thought that this novel was really good. Each of Naquin's books are filled with unexpected events that leave the reader to want to keep on reading.
Looking for a new read I stumbled upon A Monster in My Closet and thoroughly enjoyed it, it was entertaining and the characters were well developed and believable also the price of the books are very reasonable. Well edited and easy to read, I have followed the series even buying the short stories in the series despite having a dislike of short stories. While I would recommend reading the series from the beginning Ms Naquin does give short explanations of events in previous books so anyone reading books in the middle of the series will not be lost as to what is happening. All the previous books I would rate as 5 star however this book I would rate more of a 4 and 1/2 star, the interaction that I so enjoyed between the main characters and sub characters in the previous books is not as obvious in this book and the story line dragged a bit, never the less it is an entertaining read and well worth the price and I look forward to the next novel.
The fourth full novel in the series and still quirky good fun. Zoey and her ragtag band of human and hidden continue to unravel the mystery of what happened to all the other Aegis. She continues to find out through trial and error what her abilities are. Zoey is an Aegis (protector of supernatural creatures) she is also an empath. She does her best to solve the problems of the supernatural aided by her boyfriend Riley (A Reaper) and Maurice (Closet Monster) and her best friend Sarah (Human) as well as a host of other gifted humans or Hidden. Each book introduces some new creature with Naquin's unique twist.
Naguin continues to surprise with her own take on mythical creatures both familiar and obscure. She has a light clean writing style that lets the reader comfortably settle into the story, surrounding themselves with characters that for the most part you want to meet.
I strongly recommend that you read them in order and there are short stories available that fit in-between the books. Paranormal and Fantasy fans should find this a great series. My understanding from her blog is that there will be two more books in this series.
Read and enjoy.
I have really enjoyed this series - a little sci-fi, a little fantasy, a lot of heart, and some mystery and a big plot that ties the books together are yours here. There are more to come, and you will come to know the special care that only an Aegis can provide to her monsters, friends , and the "hidden". If you would like to get involved with a series that continues each book right where you left off, and get to love the best closet monster around, then this series is for you. Drama, suspense, daring rescues and love of making a family of the heart thrown in there about covers the big scope. Start from the beginning, and this latest book of the series brings us much more information and back story than we had any idea was part of this great tale. Easy reading. Love these books!
